Keeper of the Home happened to post a recipe for homemade Vapor Rub after several days of my son having a bad cough that kept us all up at night. Luckily, I had the ingredients handy, and my son had fun helping me make this homemade version of Vicks VapoRub.
Thanks for posting Keeper of the Home! We altered the recipe slightly since we didn’t have white camphor oil, and added a bit more eucalyptus.
2 tablespoons coconut oil
1 tablespoon beeswax pellets
20 drops eucalyptus oil
white camphor oil (we didn’t have any so skipped this one)
Melt oil and beeswax in a double boiler, add oil and store in a 2 ounce container. It begins to harden, but stays soft enough to remove from the container easily on your finger. Who knew it was so easy to make your own vapor rub? Joe loved making this, and the smell, and loves to give it a rub on his chest! I’m not sure if it helped or not, but he did sleep for the first time the night we used it, so maybe it did the trick!
