Eco-Friendly Friday: Dining Out? Eat Local!

Who doesn’t enjoy dining out at restaurants? I know that I do, but it is more of a challenge when you actually want to eat real food when you go out, instead of a heavily processed, soy-filled version of something that was once food.

Our family is taking a short mini-vaca right now, and we had a fantastic dinner at a local restaurant. The best part, for me, was finishing my meal and not immediately feeling sick. I know most of you don’t have that problem, but if I eat anything with soy in it, I feel horrible. If there is wheat, I get “wheat belly” and look pregnant, and feel aweful. I have to be very careful where I eat, so traveling can sometimes be a gamble with food.

I found a great site called Eat Well Search which will show you all local establishments that are either using sustainable, local, and/or organic products in their meals. You can even plan trip dining on the site. Also listed in the local search are butchers, bakers, CSAs, farmers markets, caterers, coffee shops, educational centers, organizations, stores, and local stores that offer online shopping. What an awesome resource!
