Vinegar Fabric Softener

I have mentioned this before, but I wanted to share it again. Vinegar is a FANTASTIC fabric softener. I usually just skip fabric softener altogether, but since I’ve been line drying as much as possible this summer, I notice when I don’t use a fabric softener, the towels and clothes get, well, crunchy and hard. The towels are NOT soft, and are not pleasant to use after a shower.

I started adding one-half to one cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle this week, and my towels are soft again. Hooray! No need for harsh chemicals, just good ol vinegar will do the job. Try it for yourself!

The hardest part for me is keeping an eye on the washer and remembering to put the vinegar in before the load is done. I could do an extra rinse, but that is just a waste of water, so I try very carefully to stay close to the washer so I can hear when the water drains and the rinse cycle begins.

Doesn’t it leave an odor on your clothes?
