Our Trip to the Dentist

Last week I posted about fluoride and the potential dangers of ingesting it. We had our check-up scheduled for last week, so I thought I would post how it went.

This was my almost three-year-old’s first trip, so he was pretty excited. When we arrived, I asked the hygentist if she had any fluoride-free polish for me. I was actually surprised to learn that the polish they use on kids has fluoride in it. I asked to have the fluoride-free polish for them as well. She had to ask someone if they had any, and luckily, they had ordered some and had it.

I have always hated the flavor/taste of dental polish. Whatever artificial sweetner is in them just really disgusts me. The fluoride-free polish, called Pure (I believe…), doesn’t have the sweetners and tasted JUST LIKE the Earthpaste toothpaste I use. I loved it!! No more yucky polish taste for me!! My kids had no qualms with it either.

They didn’t even ask me if I wanted to do a fluroide treatment on the boys, since obviously I opted for the fluoride-free tooth polish, but they did recommend getting x-rays, yet again. I really don’t agree with the whole needing x-rays of the teeth every year and exposing myself to even more radiation, so I vetoed those as well. I had to sign a waiver on that one stating I knew the risks of not having x-rays done. Which made me wonder, why don’t they have people sign one before getting x-rays stating they know the risk of over-exposure to radiation??

Anywho, good trip to the dentist, very pleased with my office for accomodating my requests, and no one giving me a hard time about it. Kudos to them! If you are interested in using the fluoride-free polish at your dental office, call them and ask them to order some
